Default Shiners for schoolies

Anyone ever try using freshwater shiners to catch the schoolies in spring/early summer?

Yup, dace and they worked very well. Not legal in a lot of places though due to early season restrictions on bait during the spring run.

Not illegal in CT . Can't use river Herring and you have to use circles but shiners would be ok . I've caught schoolies on them while bass fishing .

Seriously? What's the point? Aren't schoolies easy enough to catch? Why don't we just stop messing with stripers altogether. They're hanging by a thread as a species. Target anything else!

Come on guy! The guy casting a shiner to have a little fun with schoolies is definitely not going to make or break the issues you speak of.
