Default Boat capsized in Merrimack?

I heard a good size boat (36’?) capsized in the mouth today with a bunch of people in the water.
Anyone heard anything?

What time? I was out from about 8 am to 1 pm and didn't hear or see anything. It was windy out there today, but the Mouth wasn't bad at all when I was out since the wind was from the west.

I heard that on the radio too, maybe 12:45/1. I heard a nearby boat hailing CG and report of a boat “going down” in mouth but heard nothing after that point

I woke up on the boat early Sunday and was looking out the window at a calm beautiful morning thinking wow, I should have planned a fishing day. By the time I had eaten breakfast the wind was cranking and I was happy I hadn't.

Around 2pm a 22' bowrider took a wave over the boat 2 miles outside the mouth of the river. Name of the boat is Little Skipper. They had 9 people on board and sank almost immediately. A mayday was called with approximate position. I was less than a mile away and was the third boat on scene. There was a 30' Pursuit who pulled 7 people out of the water and Salisbury Harbormaster pulled 2 people out of the water. Newburyport Harbor Patrol, Ipswich Harbor Patrol, the USCG 47 and a jayhawk were all on scene in minutes to assist in secondary search for more survivors. Reports were spotty but eventually it was determined that 9 people were on board and all survived.Kudos to the 30' Pursuit, I wish I knew who he was. He was first on scene and directed other assets to his location and was pulling survivors out of the water.

FWIW, the conditions deteriorated yesterday over the course of 2 hours. The wind kicked up to 25+ out of the west. Most of the tuna fleet bailed mid day offshore and being outside the mouth was no place for a small boat.

Nhmetal - you must be in the 35 Eastern... Sorry if I stepped on your communication, we heard the distress and had just come through so were familiar with the conditions. I wanted to be absolutely sure the call was heard by CG and the situation was addressed quickly.

Yes conditions deteriorated like somebody turned on a big fan! We were super happy to hear that all were accounted for.
We saw the 22 bow rider as it was about to leave the river and cringed. I was in a 30 Grady, have a quite a few years experience and we had quite a time getting back.

I was in the 25 Parker. 35 Eastern was Jeff Fontes from Reel EZ. He was coming in from offshore and was a little behind us. As soon as I saw Harbor Patrol boats on site we moved out of the area. I had a charter onboard and didnt want to confuse the situation.

Thanks for the update, I saw that 22' heading out after I had already turned back...it looked overloaded. Kudos to that Pursuit!

Must be the Parker with the Honda. The distress call sounded very dire but probably saved their lives. They must have been tough to locate in that spray .

I guess when I made it in at about 1 pm it was before all of the excitement started. When I got up to the Ice Breaker, I was surprised by how many boats appeared to be going out. It was starting to get pretty choppy just at the Toothpick and I figured that many would turnaround.

But, 9 people on a 22-ft bow rider in those conditions - unbelievable, but we just keep seeing it over and over.

Well done to everyone involved. Someones family went home to the rest of the family thanks to you. I was out in the harbor yesterday in our 26 foot chaparral and ended up following a 20 ft bow rider with 3 people aboard through the Hull Gut. We stayed with them until they tucked in behind long island and then we kept going. Why anyone in that kind of boat was out in that kind of day I will never understand.

Did this capsizing make any of the local news outlets? I couldn't find any articles online.
