Default 34 & 28 Regulars at Crab Ledge

Yesterday I was tight on an 85" or so fish in pea soup fog running a charter and I hear a boat coming down on us at 35-40 MPH! I look and a Regulator which a believe was a light blue 34 veer off hard to his port, he didn't even have time to back off his throttles to avoid hitting us broadside. While I'm busy screaming at him, I look again and a light gray 28 Regulator that was following him ripped the throttles back and went hard port. I didn't hear him because I was too busy loosing my mind screaming at everyone, but my mate heard him say I'm sorry before he sped off.

Besides the fact that it was a bucket list item for everyone on my charter to catch a giant which which was almost cut off, holy crap was this a close call. These guys were moving! These were new boats with top electronics too. This was so close to multiple fatalities and probably not just on my boat either. I'm willing to bet it is someone on this forum and or someone on this forum knows these guys. I was really hot about this yesterday, but we caught a bigger fish on our next drift which put me in better spirits. It's hard to believe I was so close to a disaster because someone thought it was a good idea to run 40MPH in the fog. If it was you, I won't shame you on here, but you owe me an apology. 508-208-0149.

they had their new radars in 'bird mode' and thought all the returns, including you, were birds! isn't that how it works?

hopefully they were as shaken up as you and learned something. hopefully.

...amature hour...same on my approach to Nantucket on Saturday...boats cutting in front of others heading into the channel ...thick fog all the way to brant point and folks going full bore ....if fog just stay home its safer...having electronics isn't the same as know how to use electronics ...

Yikes! We were out the day before in the same conditions. NO ONE should be speeding out there this season. Defensive and minimum on plane driving only. Glad your OK as no fish is worth that collision.

Glad you and your clients are safe Captain. This is uncalled for.

Guy probably had his radar set for 12nm and thinks he'll get a good 1/2 mile target going 25 knots. Idiot.

Kinda like seeing Jeep Wrangler owners in the ditch in the snow because they are under a delusion that 4wd is magic.

Well it turns out it's a white 34 Regulator with trip white Yamaha's and a blue hull 26 Reg with gray yamaha's. I heard from one of my birdies they were both running together at Crab Ledge on Sunday and are both out of Wychmere Harbor. It is now only a matter of time before I get your names. I am a husband, provider, and father of two young daughters. I was also responsible for 4 other people that day. I'm back to being pissed. My number is in my original post. I have a break from charters this weekend, I'll swing by the harbor to chat if I don't hear from you.

I’m out of wychmere no white 34 reg in the harbor. Your birdie gave you wrong info. Also not everyone who ones a boat and fishes is on hull truth just to let you know.

Yup, that's me. I found the two boats, thank you to those who helped. Read the other post of the guy in the sporty running over the dragger at 30 knots. I was almost in the same exact situation.

I think the correct question is "Did the OP have a good screaming at them and did anybody swing at anyone?"

Someone is going to get killed in Chatham...AGAIN! I dont understand why people blast thru fog. They dont even know the rules. The shit I have witnessed in the last two weeks is nuts. Drifting live macs has become very dangerous.

The stuff I've seen in the last two weeks will turn you off boating! Last Saturday took the cake. After fishing the far reaches of Stonehorse I watched a brand new 17' Montauk coming out of the fog from Nantucket with a guy navigating with his cell phone! It gets better.... pea soup on the way back to Stage I get a contact coming off Monomoy absolutely flying. Kept coming at me no slowing so I came to a complete stop, a 28-30' cc goes 30-40 ft across my bow..Yes the idiot had radar---must have been broken! Then of course coming into the main channel I finally had 4-5 boats follow me in--yes they had no radar and a baby Beluga on a paddleboard and two Kayaks go across the channel in 20' in front of my now parade! I'm sorry but I leaned on the horn and gave them a friendly salute because even set at 400ft the radar is shooting over their heads. Please have some self awareness in that kind of fog--- nobody can possibly see everything moving around out there!

Coming into Stage Harbor at 6AM a few years ago in pea soup, we had a paddle boarder cut right across our bow. Not 20ft in front of us. Gave us the "what?" look when I ****ing screamed at him.

Maybe I'm just a wimp, but I crawl in those conditions, electronics or not.

I was out yesterday morning when the fog rolled in at 1/8 mi visibility. I have no radar, but enough intelligence to be on the lookout and breakout the air horn. We kept fishing the rips with a few other boats, and when it was time to leave and run back to the south cut, I took it slow and had my crew (daughters) on the lookout and listening. We went slow... I had one boat pass me in the opposite direction, with radar, and given the distance, I think he saw me...

This year I put off a radar arch fabrication and radar purchase, and regret it now.

So you found the boats. What is it exactly you plan on doing with that information?
