Manahawkin, NJ info/ shot in the dark
#1

So my wife is getting transferred to Manahawkin, NJ area for work and looking for info for a rookie in the area.. (Yes, right now👀
From Wilmington, NC we will be staying for 2 months (minimum) looking for a house to rent as well if anyone has a vacation home just sitting?
Also a surfer and avid fisherman ( likely bringing boat with us, most bay/ nearshore)
Any advice or people I could contact in way of finding quick, furnished housing (w dock area a huge plus) would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe marinas around, or just general area advice would be great!
PMs very welcome!
Thanks Hulltruth family!

Some houses in BHW have a 45 minute no wake boat ride to open water. Specify your limitation on this as many homes are less than 10 - 15 minutes. Need anything else let me know.

Wow, that’s different, someone moving TO NJ instead of away from NJ.

Beach haven west is a huge area. I’m sure you can find something there. Other close by towns are little egg harbor and Barnegat. These are all waterfront communities, mostly average, mid income areas. You are close to 2 inlets so lots of opportunities to fish in the bay, inlets and the ocean depending on the wind, weather and targets of the day. Lots of good bars and restaurants close by. Plenty of shopping. 30 minutes from Atlantic City. 90 minutes from Philly. Really a nice part of NJ.

Thanks for all the advice so far!
I know moving North is odd, but, your fishing regulations can’t be any worse than ours this year... can they? Ha. (Zero flounder, 4 trout, 3 bluefish, 1 red drum, 0 stripers)
I am looking in Beach Haven.. thanks. Maybe after this is all past, we can trade some trips for all the heads up and telling me where to get a non-southern piece of pizza.

Check out the local fish wrapper "The Sandpaper". Fair amount of summer, winter, and year-round rentals listed. Inland fishing has been a little tough lately but inshore does well. Feel free to PM me for more information.

Good luck finding anything in Beach Haven. The locals who work there can barely find housing in the best of times. And even if you do find something, you're going to pay 2-3 times more than you would anywhere else. You won't get anything with a dock there, but there are a bunch of small marinas on that end of the island.
A buddy of mine used to rent a house in Barnegat Light in the off-season for a couple of months at a time. It was cheap, and he was right near the inlet. There are canals up that way, and the High Bar Harbor Yacht Club rents out slips by the week. I usually put my boat there in the Fall for Striper season. It's a beautiful, sheltered marina, only minutes from the inlet.

There are rentals in Barnegat twp that have boat slips on the lagoons and are only 10-15 minute runs to the inlet. The fishing is very good in Barnegat Bay, you will love the area. Harvey Ceders (15-20 minutes from Manahawkin on LBI used to have a very good surf break that even my buddies in NC would talk about. I am from NJ but lived in Wilmington NC for several years and moved back to NJ in 2009. If you need someone to show you are around the area I am off the next 3 months. Good luck

These make a lot more sense. For someone who is relocating for work in Manahawkin, I don't know why you would suggest Barnegat Light or Beach Haven, which are on the island and at the extreme N & S. For cost and driving, I would think you need to be on the mainland.
