thanks all for the help
got one estimate at over $7k for two small triangles
another guy said $500
work is now done, just templated for new mattress, basically a california king
in retrospect, i probably could've done the modification myself for less than $50 in materials but oh well the guy had an interesting approach i probably would not have thought of and it should look real nice
btw, custom boat mattress quotes were ridiculous... $4-5k
ordering the mattress custom cut from a supplier for $500 and change
so "$12k" project done for $1k-ish aka one boat buck (similar experience with some canvas work i am having done over winter - two shops came in at absurdly high prices, and two shops were very reasonable - this approach to doing business throwing out absurd numbers is annoying but welcome to post financial crisis world glad there are still some places out there reasonably priced...)
can't wait for spring!

Are you just getting a piece of foam or a fully quilted mattress? I'm in central CT and can measure and build you a custom mattress in either high density poly, memory foam, or natural latex. I can provide pics if you like, or give me a call at 203-729-3173. Nautopedic Custom Yacht Mattresses. Nautopedic | Custom Yacht Mattresses

thanks

I have had a 6" High Density Poly foam Nautopedic mattress on my Hatt for about 6 or 7 years. The only place it has any evidence of compression is where I regularly sit on the edge and pick my guitar for an hour or two. It does not "bottom out" to the point where you can feel the plywood base.
