Default Moriches Bay to Shinnecock Canal

Hey Folks,

Doing a family trip from Great South Bay to Peconic/Block Island in a few weeks. In past years I hit ground trying to run through Moriches Bay just north of the inlet. I've heard it's been dredged, but what is the local knowledge? Can I run the bay and head to the Shinnecock Canal on the inside, or should I go out Moriches inlet and back in through Shinnecock? I have a trawler-type boat (an old 34' Mainship) with a keel that draws 3.5'.

North of the inlet has been dredged both sides, you can run straight through, They didn't make it too wide but from my expericence so far it's at least 6 ft deep still at low tide.

No problem getting to Moriches Inlet from Great South Bay. Take the outside in your 34' Mainship to avoid the Quogue Canal and 5 mph. Have a great trip.
