Default New York City Fireworks by Boat

We will be in the NYC area by boat during the 4th of July week.

Looking for feedback on other's experiences going by boat.

How close can you get?

I'm sure it will be a zoo but is it worth it?

Thanks

Basically besides the normal heavy traffic of ferrys and barges theres a ton of head boats down there. Me personally, its too hectic to have fun

What kind of boat? coming from where?

Personally, I don't think it's worth it
I've done it several times and it was nothing but a headache
Too many out there that have no idea what they're doing, never run at night and have had a few beers

Where are you docking?
Might be better to look into someplace like Liberty Landing where you can see it from your slip

The problem, it becomes dangerous after the show.

My suggestion, plan to stay put for some time afterwards.

If you are not the Captain, you will have a good time. If you are, forget about watching the show.

Very dangerous for any recreational boaters to be out there with all the drunks, incompetents, party boats, yachts, ferries, currents, police boats. Unless you want to risk your and your guests’ lives, do not go! Take a cruise on a party boat and party it up and enjoy.

There are lots of regional displays that are plenty impressive and none of the hassle. I will be watching the Mamaroneck fireworks from my boat, it may not be "quite" as big a show but is awesome just the same.

Coming from eastern CT. I put in a request for a stay at Liberty Landing. Sounds like we
would be able to see the show from there.

You’ll wait quite some time for the show to start. It’s 45 mins to an hour long show with strong currents and endless jogging to maintain position.
Then I would not move for another 45 mins after the show until the debacle has cleared. It’s total chaos after the show ends.

As another poster above commented, it’s great unless you’re the captain. That is the best summary you will receive.

i'd employ common sense and stay far away

there are plenty of excellent shows in connecticut so dont understand why you would even consider going to NYC

i am typically the last boat to show up right before fireworks and the first boat to leave a fireworks show. i anchor at the edge closest to my return dock. its stressful watching idiot boaters. i usually slowly sip a beer and dont enjoy myself until tied up back at dock.

If you go make sure you start up your engines before the show ends, because when it ends it mayhem! Also if you are the captain don't drink you will need all of your sensors functioning 100%.
