It is not just a mako tournament …

If they don't cancel … fishing will be very unpleasant to say the least ….

The Star Island Shark Tournament, out of Montauk, was cancelled this year. Today and Saturday were too sporty of seas.

I don’t really see the point of a shark tournament.

Marine biologists encourage them, they get a chance to study these species of shark which is a pretty unique as you very rarely would find a freshly dead mako or even blue shark carcass. There really is no detriment i think 4 sharks were weighed last year at the monster shark tournament. Also mako, porbeagle, and thresher are the most sought after and they are all very edible. It's not for everyone and youre certainly entitled to not understand or disagree but theres more too it than meets the eye.

because you don’t fish for sharks. Or you think it should only be a bluefin or striper or bluefish or whatever.

You dont fish fish for them so you wouldn’t see the point.

fake news. Marine biologist are brought in to make the killing of sharks less repressive. Data for tagged sharks is better.shark tournaments only benefit big ego white Costa guys.

not fake news, marine biologists would take no part in it if they didnt feel it was beneficial, plenty of sharks get tagged during tournaments as well. So I have a big ego because I like shark fishing with a chance to win money?

I have whiteness over 50 sharks laying in the parking lot of the Hudson anglers event. Not much research going on there. Then they were either taken back out and thrown in the canal or right to the waste management dumpster. Most shark taste like piss and no one wants them.

"Most shark taste like piss and no one wants them. " …….. another misnomer from the less informed ….. of the sharks permitted in the tournament only the blue shark meat is undesirable …. and at a minimum tournament weight of 200lbs …. very few blue sharks make it to the scales.

If you don't like shark tournaments, move off the island.

How did a simple question turn into a bitch fest! If you don't like shark tournaments, that's fine, that's you opinion. I like shark tournaments, it is great comrority with your friends and most of the sharks we catch are released. And mako and thresher are absolutely delicious. I catch dozens of sharks every year and only keep a select few for the table and NONE of it goes to waste.
