Default Upper Chesapeake boating?

Ok, ...... so I have spent all my life boating from Manasquan (NJ) to Nantucket (also up the Hudson to the Canadian border), and have always heard about how great the Chesapeake is.

So, ........... How good is the northern Chesapeake, say north of Baltimore, for keeping and principally using a boat (33ft twin screw power boat). Are there many places on the west side to keep a boat that are more 'informal' (not the soccer mom and country club dad kinds of place). A real boat yard is more my style.

Thanks.

Yessir, check out Middle River. You have lots of options, some fancy, some mid level, and some are just the basic yard which it sounds like you want. I have kept my boat at Bowleys for ten years and like it but it sounds like you may want a place like Edwards Boat Yard or Weavers Boat Yard based on your description. Weavers is on Back River which Is just a hair south of Middle River.

Thank you. Yours is the second endorsement for Edwards that I have gotten, will certainly check them out. This will be for starting a year or two from now, so we'll see.

Middle river is great on weekdays and weekends not Memorial to Labor Day. It is one of the busiest rivers on the Chessy. Some of the worst wake I've had the joy of boating through was at the mouth of Middle river. That said it is beautiful river with lots of marinas, boat yards, sandy bottoms for rafting up, and plenty of great water front watering holes. If your not used to busy boating you could have a WTF moment on a nice weekend in July..lol. Just wanted to mention that. Seneca creek to just to the north is little more quite but still close enough to the action if you want it. The upper bay is a great place with lots of exploring to be done.

My suggestion is check out Sue island marina. Great location next to a restaurant and 5 minutes out to the bay. You don't have to mess around in weekend middle river traffic for too long to get out to HMI or Fairlee. Decent slip rates and great staff, Mark, and his family have always been great to me.
