Default Anne Arundle Co Boat Ramps

I just learned of 2 new Anne Arundle County boat ramps. The first (may or not be new, but new to me) is located at Fort Smallwood Park on the Potapsco. It says you can launch boats up to 28 feet and less than 8'6" in width. $10/day or $75 annual permit, payable by cash or check at the park gatehouse. The second is brand new, just opened last fall, at Discovery Village (Parrish Creek on West River). I called AA Co to find out more information about this ramp. My buddy's dad lives a half a block away and said it looks really nice. One nice, big ramp, with lots of parking space. I called AA Co to find out more info, but the nice lady didn't know much. She said as far as she knew they aren't charging to launch there yet. I'll probably try to launch there April 20 for the rockfish opener, and hopefully there won't be a crowd.

Does anybody know much about or use Ft. Smallwood? Is there ample parking? Does it fill up fast? The stuff I read said when it's full, no more vehicles are allowed in until space opens up. I'm thinking it might be an alternative to Sandy Pt if the fish are way north like they were last summer.

The Ft Smallwood park ramp is excellent. Plenty of parking, but I have not been there at any prime times so I don't know if the large lot fills up. I tend to doubt it.
Launched and retrieved a friend's 32 X10-6 walkaround without issue.

thanks for the info. Like I said, I think FS might be a nice alternative to Sandy Pt. As nice as SP is, it does get crowded, traffic is a pain at times on rt 50 and if you're there after 6AM they want to charge you for each individual in the vehicle. Should be a little closer to me, I won't have to get up at 2AM to be there by 6AM. Plus I fish north by Rock Hall a lot so FS would be closer and save some gas. I'll give it a try this summer.

I lookws on Google maps and could not find this ramp. When looking at the reference place on the AA Co. map, Google shows nothing.

They are newer than the mapping. Discovery Village has been open just a few months. They knocked down the building and put in a huge parking lot and ramp. Not sure how long Fort Smallwood has been open, but it doesn't show either. There's a PDF on the AA Co website showing the layout of the ramp and parking areas within the park.

Ft Smallwood park ramp is no different than Sandy Pt during the summer. You have to get there early. Have seem them turn away boats a lot due to the parking lot being full

How long can you park at the Anne Arundle ramps? At Sandy Pt. you can leave your vehicle there for several days and it is pretty secure.

The problem with Sandy Pt. parking is that if the beach lots are full, they let the beach goers park in the boat ramp lot. There can be a lot more beach goers parked there than boaters. At the very least, there should be a section reserved for boat ramp parking only.
