I have 40 lb on 5500 Spinfishers and Penn claims 250 yards.

That's plenty of line. Drive the boat to the fish if close to bottom of spool. Better off getting good boat position on the fish when possible to make a shorter more effective cast.

Saw a report of a cobia caught in VA. Fireflies were in the yard last night, right on cue!

I disagree. Would rec’d at least 250yds. Though have rarely had to use it. Could have multiple hook ups and not able to chase her down. And after a couple seasons of stripping off the frayed line, you will be down to 150 in no time. Good luck.

Took a little ride around MJbay 3hr scouting trip mostly trolled ( spanish) spotted more than 14 cobia.. landed a 38 , had a huge one take a swipe at bait but missed. (think the small cobe next to it spooked it) but was huge boil ! (gets heart racing)

Couldn’t believe the reports from this weekend while out of town so scraped together a crew for this afternoon. Started seeing fish right away off cape Henry. Not ideal conditions with all the wind and swell but saw about 50 and landed 8 nice fish up to 40#. Would eat most artificials if the cast was right, though a few weren’t interested. Nice preseason trip to kick things off.

Hoping to see the man in the brown suit this weekend. I need to get my revenge on the one that straightened the hook last year.

Caught this one looks like she has the clap or something. Caught another that had a huge parasite chewing on its tail like a big sand flea. Overall fat healthy fish besides that

Has anybody had any sights of cobia or caught any north of the mobjack bay towards the Rapp spit and windmill light? I was cruising around for them this afternoon in between my rockfish spots but didn’t see any. Saw plenty of rays and dolphins though so I think the water temps are right.

Spotted a small pack of rats cruising in the skiff a bit south of the mobjack on Friday. I think the big ones will be worth targeting along the stingray bar by June 1st, for right now there are lots of decent sized fish up top along York Spit.
