Default Virginia contract corruption

For all to know how corrupt VA is.

Virginia claims there all about small businesses. I bid on a state contract and it was awarded to one of the biggest corporation in the country in my line of work. I also believe my bid was disclosed to this company to undercut my own.

Sorry you lost the bid. Why do you think your bid was shown to the competition?

it's been a number of years, but a while back, that sort of thing was found to be happening in VA state purchasing and not only did heads roll, but a few heads ended up in state prison.
Back when I was in sales and doing some business with state agencies, I couldn't even buy someone a Big Mac, much less take them out for a fancy dinner.

Our bid on multiple items were to close to be a fair comparison. It's impractically impossible to be a couple dollars apart on all items in question. Our business models are so far apart not to mention the manufacturing is over 2000 miles apart in a completely different labor market.

Don’t think there’s not someone who reviews the bids that doesn’t have a contact at the big dog company. Maybe they took him hunting at a fancy ranch or off shore fishing. It’s pretty sorry but all to common

It happens all over the place and at all levels. Is it right - NO. Can you safely do anything about it - NO.
I once had a ~$5B contract I signed 2 weeks prior tore up due to a losing competitor company in Country B engaging their government to talk to the government in the deal Country A about them not winning the contract. Our contract got cancelled as the two governments rolled the contract into a much bigger deal they were about to sign. We had by far the best commercial offer, in fact the only commercial offer that could meet the project deliverables,. had a signed deal, but already did a lot of business with country A that would be at risk if we tried to force legal action (which we could have easily done). What are you going to do? Probably lost a $M or three that we had invested in winning the deal, but could have lost a whole heap more by fighting the illegitimacy of that decision. Not talking about 3rd world countries here!
I pulled my complete operation out of another (non-3rd world) country after political corruption made it too hard to do business there. Several $M's invested there that was a total loss. You can argue, scream & shout about this stuff but fighting it normally hurts you more than the other guy.

Make enough noise and you might not get any new state contracts ever. Might even unexplainedly lose some regular clients. In fact I would delete the post you made already just to be safe. Once enough money is involved, decisions are often more influenced by politics than the actual business processes.

I get it but it's a shame and plain stupid. They just hurt themselves when all the income tax goes out of the state to the big dogs 2000 miles away. Not to mention I will have to lay off 1 or 2 employees from it.

I don't see your point. This is what forums are for. You probably should've clicked on the thread if it didn't interest you not to mention make a comment.

Well, I for one clicked because I thought maybe it had to do with a contract about something related to the bay. Maybe building a jetty or erosion control... Maybe about Omega. How should we know.

You make a blanket statement like that to vent.... give some context. If you just had a bad day at work, just beat the dog when you get home. It helps

Hey TorFed, I agree with you. You saw my post on this page about Ocean View Marina and it's similar to what you describe about good old boys.
Just look at Big Chill deal (rich lawyer from D.C.). State wasn't even going to tell public about restaurant on state parkland till it opened.
I contacted Rehoboth foodie and told him about it, he broke the story a few months before it opened.
He was told not to run story!!! Why?

Call a local paper, they can follow up with the office that awards the contracts and inquire why they are not following their own policies.
