Default Northern Neck Fishing Reports 2017

Thought I would bring this thread back.

I trolled for Spanish on 7/3 from just past Bluff Point out to the Cut Channel with no luck. I did see a huge Cobia jump partially out of the water.

Hit the reefs if you want Spanish.

I guess we had a little better luck on 7/4. Found all the spanish we could take just north of 1R. Put 12 in the box and left the fish biting. Storm clouds rolled in and glad we headed in when we did.

No luck on the Cobia at windmill point. I was anchored fishing menhaden chum and 3 live eels out at a time (one on bottom, one with no weight and one with a float).

I did catch a small bull shark though, put up a good fight.

Anyone still fishing the northern neck area between Smith Pt. and the Rapp. ?

Plenty of bird action at the mouth of the Potomac over the past week. Lots of small fish with enough keeper rockfish mixed in.

I'll be out tomorrow and Saturday dragging lines.

I went out last Saturday from Fleet's bay to 59a. Saw absolutely nothing. Barely marked any bait, zero birds working, (did not see any gannets either) and no strikes. I have to work this coming weekend but will be back out the 8th and 9th.

I did hear of a 43lb citation caught in the cut channel area on Friday weighed in at a local marina.

Friday we caught plenty of 16-19" fish at 62. Birds were working from the Potomac down to stingray point. Went out Saturday and didn't see any birds or fish. Ran across some small schools of larger fish holding the bottom but didn't have any takers. Mouth of the Potomac was booming Friday/Saturday. Saw a couple 36"+ fish come in and full limits met with larger fish.

I fished just north of the Northern Neck Reef yesterday and ran into acres of small birds with undersized rockfish all around. I spend most of my time dealing with throwbacks that spit up bay anchovies. The charter fleet seems to be working the mouth of the Potomac at slightly different locations from day to day.

I just saw this thread.

Good luck out there!

I fished the Rapp a few times in November and had decent luck every time except last Sunday when we were skunked from 12 all the way to 6.
Biggest this year was 26"

How far is the cut channel from windmill point?

Its only 4-5 miles. Just go straight out into the bay until you run into a big pile of boats! It is the shipping channel.

Generally later in the season (now) I tend to fish from the Mouth of the Rapp out into the bay.

Thanks

Always thought it was further away.

I won't be out that far this year as my boats not running right but if I go New engine I'd like to venture further out.

I'm only in a 22' so will pick my days.

I thought you sold it from seeing your other posts. I've always liked that hull (the one you had in your signature pic). Re-powering is a big pill to swallow, but so is a new boat.
