We were out yesterday evening and brought in a 21" Flounder in 18ft of water off the 1st Island on a clam while Triggerfishing. Only 1 Trigger. 1 short Flounder, 1 short spade; small croakers, small blackfish around as well.

Good to hear from yah TCB. Glad to hear you are finding some fish.

They are some quality spades out there! And you don't have to go far from little creek to find them!

Ok I enjoyed reading this thread so I should contribute. Fished last week july 3 and got a bunch of keeper flounder near the structure at the clt. No monsters but some nice fish. We went again on the forth ant the bite was slow so we went to a offshore wreck and caught 7 flounder. The water looked really good 4 miles east of the clt so I'm thinking that the mahi should be here soon.

Going to try for cobia tomorrow and mahi on Sunday.

What are your plans for mahi? We are going to try by the triangle wrecks. Not sure if it is far enough.

Adam, I really wish I knew enough to say- I had a plan for them. ( other than a few times 25yrs ago) I just started going after fish in ocean last summer . Sadly, I lost my motors just when I started going out looking and finding them . So-- I really have little idea what , where , when-- other than several videos on utube
Have a good feeling It may take a few of us to get out there and take a peek.. the couple times I have been out recently- I have seen baitfish so it should bring them in.. Kings are showing so there Is something that we know will bite ..

Got out there yesterday and had some success with our three targets. Started off with a decent spanish bite off the oceanfront in the morning. In-line sinkers outproduced the planers 5 to 1. Put a dozen in the box then headed to the CBBT for flounder during slack tide using cobia belly, bluefish strips and gudgeons. As usual, the toad bite was on fire but we did manage one keeper at 17". Got tired of catching toads so started looking for cobia. Too late to run all the way to the ES so we searched around the channel and caught two around 30". Clouds rolled in and we started heading back. Checked some pilings and saw a couple more and caught another about 30". Seems like it was slack tide all afternoon and we spotted more spades than I had ever seen on the pilings but mostly small ones.

Spanish mackerel.. Have read that they go to Florida for winter (gulf of Mex) and move up the Atlantic as waters warm..
I catch them along the coast of Va and inside the ches-bay all the way up to Potomac river..

While some may call it treason, its a very clean white meat fish and I like it better than flounder!
As flat ones started disappearing in the lower bay (80's) I would see them jumping where I fished (the cell area)
and I started fishing 1/2 day for flounder 1/2 for Spanish.. as flounder keepers got harder and harder to catch, I finally just focused on Spanish when they showed up.

Spanish used to come in bay in schools of thousands! ( we had tons of baitfish in bay) Some of the old guys, when I was younger said they would jump in boat! unfortunately catch rates are dropping (big time) on them too.

Fishing was tough for us yesterday. We ran out to the CBBT looking for cobia. Rode the bridge all the way past the 4th island. Found a huge school of monster spades. Proceeded to break off a handful. Saw 3 cobia, none of which were keepers. Messed around for flouder at the 4th...nada. Took a swim. Saw hundreds of dolphins near the hi rise. Saw a dead one floating. Called it a day. Had a blast with some friends.

Got back to the ramp was pretty crowded. Here comes this guy launching a 36 or 42 yellowfin. Beautiful boat. He backs her down throws it in the water. He pushes his way though the crowd all the way out while his buddy parks, then pushes his way all the way back through the crowd to pick up his buddy. Didn't communicate with any. Not a huge area to work with to begin is. What a dick.

Took a ride with my buddy Capt mark on a charter he had.. fished cobes at Spit.. Nana ( shark and gar (houndfish?) fished for spade a while tons of small ones but a good sized one every so often. Tried spit area for spanish guessing we hooked 13-14 but kids could not understand not to pump rods and lost most..
Overall a great day to be on water , super fun to see the kids having great times fishing! -we only saw one cobe while trolling for mac's

Tried yesterday to kill a sheepshead. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. I had one fish stuck that felt like the right bite, but it just didn't happen. Mike saved the day with a couple solid flounder drifts and we were off the water before 6:00pm. Not a single drop of rain all day!

Went out after work for a couple hours. Tried Spanish on my own for the first time. Bite was spotty but managed 2. Still learning. But man did the weather pick up from how it was when I was at work. Cane across the hrbt at lunch and it was glass. Go fishing and it's 3ft.

Good morning gang. We fished the Triangle Wrecks area yesterday and caught some nice King's and a Gaffer. Also, had a lot of random other fish like Jack's, Big Spanish and Blues. Also encountered an 80lbs estimated Cobia that was holding to a buoy. The fish ate everything we were pulling but favored the flat line baits. We had stopped at the CBBT on the way out to scare up some bait and had a really strong class of both Spanish and Blues. There was a ton of bait holding tight to the bridge and some good bird activity. I'm ready to it again ASAP. Fish On
