Default Bay/Elizabeth River Fishing

I grew up fishing the hot ditch and CBBT, but haven't been in the area in 10ish years. Going to be bringing my center console up for Thanksgiving and going fishing a few days. Know the Hot Ditch is no longer hot, so was hoping for some fish/general areas I should look at hitting. Was thinking of CBBT area for stripers , maybe Lynnhaven river, potentially head out to some wrecks if the weather looks good.

Not looking for anyone's honey hole... just generally get me pointed in the right directions for some good options.

While the ditch may not be "hot"... I do still see a lot of folks fishing over there.

I went out a little over a week ago... fished some shorelines and grassbed from the high rise south down to the locks. I also fished the channel edge and did pretty well with a chartreuse body on a jighead. Saw a lot of top water hits that day, but couldnt get any bites on the topwater bait.

I think your best bets would be specks in the places you mentioned, togs at CBBT or wrecks offshore.

The rockfish fishery isn't what it used to be. Wouldn't even waste my time with that.

Since the hot ditch shut down. Last year was the first year for any decent trout in the er or any at all .I am a inshore guy that looks forward to trout on artificial only with super light gear. . The striper took over and never left. Lots of big white perch for them to chew on. just fish the structure on any bridge in the er .I pull stretches 25 and 15 or paddle tails work good on jigging pilings .Drum have been good this year shallow water. Trout have been every where on the er. The avg trout size is 18 -20inch from what I have caught. Candy corn bass assassins have done great for me .

Word of advice .parking lots been filling up early at the GB locks and Jordan bridge this past week.. Launch early early and expect the game warden at both places.

How did ya do man?

Yeah, I live just a couple mins away from the locks and been driving by seeing what the parking situation looks like throughout the day. Thinking about playing hookey Friday and getting out there for a bit.

Did pretty good on the ER. Wound up with 6 keepers the first day and 12 the next. Had a few 18"-19"ers.

efinitely appreciate everyone's guidance.
