Default Speed/power knob

Hello all! I am considering adding a speed/power knob to the steering wheel of my 2014 GW Gulfstream. Does anyone have any experience with them, be it good, bad or indifferent? I recently read on a forum from a few years back that they are not compatible with Grady's due to the size and/or design of the steering wheel and I am wondering if that is accurate. Thanks for any and all input.

I haven't heard of a speed knob before, are you referring to a suicide knob?

Indeed FinFever, I have heard it referred to as that as well.

I recently installed a new wheel from Amazon with a steering know on my 225 Freedom. Well worth the money (which wasn't much.) It will fit your boat. Don't just clamp on a knob.

Thanks GWcpa. So are you suggesting one that mounts to one of the spokes on the wheel? Edson is a name that I have came across often in researching this. Would that happen to be the brand that you added to your Freedom?

Big difference when maneuvering around docks.

That is good to know, thank you! I can use all of the help that I can get when both docking and fishing around Docks.

I added my Edson powerknob to my 20' Century a while back. I can tell you I won't ever own a boat without one ever again. I'm pretty sure the fitment is universal.

Thanks MorriesSon. Edson is the brand that has been recommended to me, but I am hesitant to order in the event that is does not fit. Is yours just the knob that attaches to the steering wheel via clamps or did you have to drill a hole and mount it to a spoke on the wheel?

It was the clamped version.

2013 Grady 335 Freedom. Edison wheel. Added an Edison clamp on knob. Comes with a few different clamps for different sizes. Took a bit of effort to make it fit properly, but works great once installed.

I had an Edson mounted to the rim on my old skiff. It was a quality unit and quite secure.
Like others said, 'wouldn't have a boat without one.

I paid $66 for this one on Amazon. Very happy with it. Use it for docking every time out. It's not available now but there are more options.

That looks like a nice one, GWcpa, and you certainly can’t beat the price. I appreciate all of the input from everyone.

Edsons got the market cornered on knobs. Totally worth the price. Would not dream of having a boat without one. Docking, grabbing the wheel in the slop, hard turning, just a massive upgrade for such a small item.
