Default 2020 White Marlin Open

Just saw today that the 2020 WMO has been extended through next weekend making it a 7 day tournament this year to account for the tropical storm early in the week. Still fish 3 days out of the 7.

Yup. Been watching concerned and wondering how they were going to handle it. Fishing it in a 28 it makes a huge difference to us.

I would think the guys in the big Sporty's are a little upset by this? One of their key advantages over the field is being able to fish in less than ideal conditions.

Having a better weather outlook later in the week might get some folks on the fence to commit, making the pool bigger is one possible offset.

Sounds like the local charter fleet and the organizers/volunteers for the Alice Kelly Tournament are the ones most upset. For us, fishing in a 39' and coming from FL, it makes a big difference in what calcuttas we enter. Tough to cough up $25k and feel like you aren't even going to be able to fish the same number of days as your competitors.

The net result is that they'll have more boats and more calcutta money per boat while pissing off the locals pretty badly. I get why they are doing it. I'm sure the numbers were already going to be down because of COVID (anecdotally I know of a few boats from my area not making the trip because of it) and they were afraid that the weather was going to be a double whammy and really hurt the turn out. I also get the frustration of the locals, particularly the Alice Kelly folks. I'm not sure what the correct answer is. It's kind of a no win situation.

They saw what happened to the Tuna Tournament and are trying to make it fair for everyone to get in their 3 days of fishing.

Yup. We decided to go heavier into calcuttas based on that fact.

And as for the 60-70' boats with more in electronics than half the entire boats in the fleet costs, they still have their advantages. They can fish the days early in the week with no other boats out there.

Forecast for 13 ft. @ 9 seconds, they wont’t be out there either.

Default Yea buddy

The Tuna tournament was a shit show..luckily we were one of the 3 boats that fished the first day and got our daily money. (And it was fishable for every class of boat!). Should of let everyone fish both days..
What really pissed everyone off is instead of refunding the money from not having the dinners and tent etc. They raffled off gift cards to their own stores...so they still get the money one way or another!

I was hoping it would be over by that weekend so I could fish. Oh well, fully understand why they would do that.
Good luck to those fishing.

Thanks. Yeah, being on one of the smaller boats it makes a big difference. Fortunately registration lines today weren't too long. Last year we were in em for 4 hours.

433 boats, $6.9 Million

I'm going to try to get out inshore after they go out and definitely back in before the masses come in.

I wonder if the Zip Zap power youtube guy will be there again.

Only 42 boats went out today.

I hope the Zip Zap Power guy is there. He got some great footage last year.
