Default Gear Recommendations Lower Bay

Hello,

Will be spending a week in Cape Charles August 9th. Looking for Recommendations on what I should plan on having tackle wise. Currently we fish out of the south river gear is mostly set up for Trolling or live lining for Rockfish. 10-14 trolling rods mixture on Penn and okuma level wind Reels. In addition a couple Bait casters for live lining or jigging. Can I make this work or are the 2 or so more rods and reels I should consider getting for the trip?

Not much trolling action in the lower bay that time of year, except Spanish Mackerel and that only take light tackle. Either inline weights and small planers, along with some different colored Clark spoons - and you're all set.
Flounder and Cobia action should be pretty hot, along with Drum, in that area. All of those are different rig set-ups. Most people either anchor/chum for Cobia (or sight cast). Flounder you'll need flounder rigs and weights.....

Thanks helpful Sorry if my post wasn't clear. Not looking for Troll just trying to figure out if my trolling rods would work for Cobia fishing. I can use light tackle for Flounder etc, but wasn't sure on Cobia and other fishing.

Your trolling rods should be fine. I use smaller Avet conventional reels and they handle them just fine. Keeper Cobia are min. 40” and can run into the 60”+ range. (25-60 lbs)
