It pops up every spring, same picture. Annoying as hell. Every time its something different. "lake monster from TX", or "New World Record"

The fish was 52 lbs caught off Cape Charles few years ago as said before. Nice fish, but wide angle lenses and forced perspective can make anything look massive.

It's not fake news nor is it a fake picture. It's my understanding it's an IGFA world record, not a "biggest fish ever landed" record.

I am no genius but that looks foto shopped big time. The 50# + Rockfish I have seen in person were like beer kegs. The body on that fish looks like < 40#. The head is from a larger fish. Just my opinion though.

The current state record was caught 1/20/12, I was there. The angler was Cary Wolfe, it weighed 74 pounds and was 56 3/4 long. I was the captain on the 'Bada Bing" we were at Cape Henry. She was 26 years old, the oldest striper VIMS had aged. They said if we had of caught her a few years earlier she would have been over 80lbs. She was caught less then a mile from the old record and in the same month.
