Default Last year

Sitting at home in Carona quarantine I was thinking it might be fun to share fishing stories from last season. I missed most of the early season tuna bite but did have a few great days. I will share the late August trip w 2 good friends. We ran to Baltimore on a almost flat calm day. Pulling up in 80 fathoms we started Marlin fishing w/ the ringer swivels rigs. Long run but caught 2 and missed at least 1. Both guys who caught them were 1st time and couldn’t have been more excited. The day was super fun and still makes me happy to think about. I have a few more days to share but I will wait to share after I see if anybody responds.

Be safe!!!

For 2019 the most memorable trips were two. One was in January out of Point Lookout when were had been on schoolie striped bass all morning with fish up to maybe 32" until I saw just a few gannets sitting on the water and decided to give a look to see what was under them. We ended up with a triple header of rockfish from 43" to 47" on light tackle (10lb test). We actually hooked 4 but lost one which you will see in the video. Good thing the angler dropped right back down and hooked up again. We ended up with 5 fish over 43" that day and many many schoolies.

The second memorable trip came the day after Christmas this past year. We ran out of OCMD to chase big bass with light tackle again and were rewarded with all day of catching big fish. I think most boats ran north out of the inlet and we ran south through a lot of dense patchy fog. I found the first pod of fish just below the Little Gull Shoal and we just chased them all day with fish to 47" with the average size probably close to 40". All 4 anglers got their personal bests on light tackle (10-15lb power pro). Unfortunately we fished out of OCMD the next day and ran from the DE line to well into VA the next day and caught maybe a dozen small fish to 28". It is funny how that can be in the ocean.

Here was just one fish on day.

What was also funny is that Steve, they guy above, got a 47" on that fantastic day out of OCMD and he was thinking it would be a light tackle personal best that would stand a little while. However on my next trip out of Point Lookout in the Chesapeake he got a 48". Great way to start 2020

aug. 5th last year Monday left Ocean city and headed to the Washington with my dad and brother . Put them over on the 100 Fathom line and trolled into the canyon 2 nice bites on the long riggers fought for 10 min and pulled a hook on 1 and then boated a 40 pound yellow fin worked around and caught 6 or 7 small yellow fin like 15 inchers small then worked north a mile or so and hooked a white marlin got the release. then picked up a 5 pound mahi and that was the day. Was also a flat calm day and cruised back in around 230 to beat the evening thunder storms just in time to casue it got nasty that day.

Two big moments for us came on out last two trips of the year. I had my heart set on putting a swordfish on the deck of our new to us boat, so we set out to do that. The trip before , we pulled 2 hooks on several bites and never stayed tight more than a few minutes. Next trip I head to a ledge I picked and we hit it right. We hooked up on 6 straight drops on bigeyes all in the 100lb range. Lost one and landed 5. Incredible day, being tight on a fish just about all day. Then the next trip I got my chance and we sealed the deal on our first swordfish after pulling a few hooks. Finished our year strong and looking forward to another great year.
