Default Striper Fishing in the Potomac River

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to do some catch and release fishing for striped bass this year. Are stripers in the Potomac river yet? What are some good spots to target right now? I know all about Fletcher's boathouse area, but not sure if it's too early for that. I've also heard Marshall Hall on the MD side is a good spot. Any other good areas of the Potomac to target Stripers? I'm in Alexandria, VA and usually fish out of Pohick Bay Regional Park but that launch is closed due to Covid-19. I'm looking to get the kids out of the house tomorrow for some sun, social distancing and fishing. Not sure if I should stay close and try the Potomac or travel a little further and hit the Chesapeake Bay.

Thanks in advance!

Water needs to hit 53 for the run.

I hear there are some residents stripers in the Washinton Channel but have not seen them w my own eyes.

check out pacemaker fish forum for Capt Mike Starrett.

He is always 'on the fish" but i dont know if he ever targets stripers

I had as high as 51.9 degrees in the main stem of the bay yesterday afternoon. I would assume it would be close or warmer up the Potomac.

Thanks for the advice guys! I was out in the river just outside of Pohick Bay 2 weeks ago and was marking tons of fish. It might have been catfish, but those usually show up closer to the bottom when I'm marking them than these fish were. I couldn't get any takers when I tried jigging for a few minutes. I do want to try trolling for them though, I just don't want to spin my wheels if there's nothing there to be caught. Going back and forth between trying the Potomac or making the trek to the Bay this Thursday. Weather might make the decision easy for me.
