OK....I haven’t eaten Tautog in 20 years or so. I just blackened some and I forgot how good it is.

It's my favorite from the bay.

Good Morning and Happy Thursday... Quick report for Tuesday 11/10 >>> we fished the CBBT for Blackfish early Tuesday and had a decent catch on hard crab and clam. Fish were mostly smaller but we managed a few up to 19" that made the boat ride home with us. Trolled for a bit and caught some Blues on Clark Spoons and #1 planers. Back at the inlet around 3:30pm and gave the Puppy Drum & Specks a try without any more nibbles. I'm hoping to get my kAyAk out sometime over the weekend depending on what the weather brings us. Fish On

Did some scouting for rock again today .. Ran up York,,, water was Dirty and lots of trast.. saw 1 fish on FF no bites.. so ran over to Cell/42 area.. saw lots of very small blues on FF , no fish, but tails on lures bitten.. Last run was up to mouth of Rapp,, found several good sized schools of small 10 -16" fish but no keepers.. (no bait=no fish)

Thanks Charlie. I'm down in FL right now but a buddy has been sending me pics of specks in the York. Hopefully they're still there when I get back. He's catching them pretty far up the York. Haven't heard of any rockfish

Any of you guys still wirelineing? I always used 309's and 330's.. Well the 309s are still available but 330s aren't.. ( I have mixed feelings about squall 30s) 309s are now chinese, but I ordered one to try.. lower gearing may be better for heavy arse weights..

Anyone having success with specs/pups? Last couple reports in the Guinea Marsh have been a bust.

Hard to find specks and pups. I fished Mobjack Bay twice last week. Caught 17 rock, no keepers and one 16" speck. Water temp has dropped to 53 from 64 degrees since last week. I think it will be rockfish only from here on.

Thank you.

Fished over by the high span on a tip. Not joy except many BSB an inch short. Went to the wrecks at cape Henry. Current was jacked up and not a bite in 30 minutes. Picked up and went to 3rd island. Again with the short BSB and some world class oyster toads.

Finally found a lone keeper Tautog at 2nd about an hour before sunset.

thanks.

Nothing wrong with that. I prefer to cast than troll, so need to figure out how to best do that for rock.

Went on the jon boat today because I haven't used it in a while. Made a couple drifts through Poquoson Flats. Other than the 100 or so dolphins off there I saw 0 sign of life. Even rode by a gill net and it was pretty empty.

Came back up to Goodwin Island and hit one of my trout spots. Nada.

Planned to hit the refinery dock and Dominion on the way in but the pull cord on the motor broke. I just replaced it over the summer too.

Other than no fish and getting towed it was nice. Water was super clear and flat calm.

I caught 17 rock yesterday casting to docks in Mobjack and 5 rock today casting to docks. No keepers and no specks. Not much bait on recorder although pelicans are still around. No breaking schools or working birds. Seems like the season is winding down.

Launched at Huntington Park and worked the James River Bridge and M&M today on outgoing tide. Not much marks either place. Trolled 4" Storms just above the bottom along the pilings and never even had a bump. Even tried running between pilings to see if they where up tight to the structure, but no love. Water temp was 59 degrees and flat calm. Talked to a few boats when were loading up to leave and they had the same results as us...empty fish box for the day.

The open flats do seem pretty dead but there are still reds hanging out in troughs/ditches of the deeper marsh creeks.

Didn't fish today but caught ~15 17" and a few slot fish yesterday (only 1 over 20), couple small stripers mixed in, bottom half of ebb, water temp ~57.

Upcoming chill will prob send water temps down pretty quick..

Default offshore wrecks

Pushed off out of Back River at 6am. Two hour run to the fishing grounds and setup to fish. 1st spot showed good potential but not many keeper sea bass available. I didn't even fish the 2nd spot as there were 3 boats already on it and didn't see much life on the machine. Headed to a 3rd spot where we stayed, catching 29 keeper sea bass, 1 blue fish, 1 porgy and 2 black drum. Left the grounds at 1 pm and back to the dock by 3. Boat was a hot mess. Made it back to the house at 5:30 after all the cleaning.

Apologies for the late report, fished Friday and Saturday around the HRBT. Marked decent bait and tangled with the blues. Two beautiful days but no other fish to speak of for hours of effort. Trolled small diving lures and popped jigs at the pilings.

Downside was arriving back at Willoughby to be greeeted by a parking lot full of fire and police personnel. Woman’s body found in the water mid-day on Friday. Makes a person wonder if any of the vehicles there during launch may have yielded a sad story for later that day. We managed to arrive at the dock as the recovery team was coming in with the body. My hat is off to those men and women. Tough job. Probably the quickest I have ever gotten a boat onto a trailer as I did not want to have to make them wait to finish their job.
