Welcome to Hampton Roads/Tidewater/Coastal Virginia.

Could not agree more with Mako. Safe yourself the trouble of dealing with the HRBT and look on "the peninsula." If you have kids, York County & Poquoson are generally thought of having the best public schools.

Smithfield and the surrounding area is awesome, beautiful area and not overly expensive. Naturally some areas are, depends on where you look. The only marina that may fit your bill might be Rescue Yacht Basin. I'm not 100% sure what they're about though.

I would say away from Norfolk, Newport News and Portsmouth for sure. Welcome to the area!

Glaastah! (Gloucester). I’ve been here since fall 2016 and I am growing to like it very much.

Fished the Mobjack today. More boats than I've ever seen. It was crowded. Caught some rockfish, some bluefish, 1 spanish, 2 cow nose, but only 1 speck. Water was cleaner than I thought it would be with all this rain. Rays were thick up in the shallows.

Nice to see a Spanish in the mix; not surprised about the crowds- finally warm and a holiday weekend. Were you trolling?

We were casting. Bluefish and the Spanish were out deeper in 8-10'.

Bluefish were average size I guess. We released everything. Water was 69*

Planned to go to Little Creek & CBBT but too bumpy. Stayed in Back River for the most part. Did not see much bait at all but needed to keep out of the wind. Picked up one rat red right against the bank.

Also, the water was beautiful. A light green. Best I’ve seen it in a while.

Got out on the water this morning. It was overcast and a little cool. Specks were biting pretty good. Made a couple nice drifts across the Poquoson flats and landed two nice fish. Largest was around 20" plus and the other was around 14" but I threw him back. Last 2 more at the boat. Grilled up great and was a nice Memorial Day dinner. Hope everybody had a great day and remember all those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Good morning gentlemen .... we fished the shallows on Saturday and had a great day catching Specks, Rockfish, Whiting, Spot, Croaker, Skates and Rays...also saw some Bluefish and Puppy Drum... most fish were in 4ft. of water or less and were caught on the outgoing tide on both lures and peeler crab. It was an awesome day and we saw a lot of life out there... FINALLY, the Mobjack is ALIVE!!!!! Fish On

Thanks for the report Zigh. We may try to get out that way this weekend. I don't have a lower bay report to share but I did help move a boat down to Oregon Inlet last week via the intercoastal. We got a break in the weather on Saturday and fished near the Point--turned out to be a beautiful day. We landed four yellowfin and one dolphin. We had numerous knockdowns and one other yellowfin that we lost at the boat. The charter boats of course all came back with substantially more meat, but for some guys that only get offshore occasionally, I felt like we had a pretty decent day. Looking forward to some trips to the norfolk canyon this summer.

Nice offshore report tidewater. I have a buddy down there that just got a new to him 26’. Would like to get on some tuna and mahi action. How far out of OI did you have to run?

I think we ran about 35 miles to get to the fishing grounds once we were out of OI. But navigating that inlet is no joke right now. It's bascially a sand bar all the way across. But once you're out of OI, it's not a bad run at all. Even with that short run, I ended up logging 388 total miles on the water with moving the boat all the way from Hampton to OI, fishing on Saturday, and then running all the way back to Hampton yesterday. Great times though, can't wait to do it again next year.

Good to hear about the Poq Flats and Mobjack turning on. We hit the Flats Friday evening and it was dead. No minnows, no bait, no signs of life other than rays.

Stayed in Back River Sunday due to wind and lack of good signs in Friday. One pup to show for it.

Gave the boat a shakedown trip few hours this morning, got in the tower just to see if I saw anything. Nothing but a couple rays and a turtle (early for that I thought).

Went out for a quick trip yesterday evening found 9 Spanish and 2 blues within an hour. Caught all of them on 00 and 0 Clarkspoons close to the Poquoson Reef. Fishing is heating up!
