Same story; bass on top water this am for the outgoing. Echoing the above comment- the pup bite was slow. Only one and it was way undersized. Had great action on soon-to-be keeper rocks (19-21" fish) walking the dog; the pup came on a Gulp! Funny lookin guy taking hot laps on a wave runner got a little close and the bite abruptly ended. I did remember to charge the camera today!

The VA Rockfish season is just around the corner. I haven't seen any publicity, but VMRC voted in July to mandate the use of non-offset circle hooks when using live or chunk bait for rockfish.

https://mrc.virginia.gov/regulations/fr252.shtm

I spent the last few days catching Spot for rockfish bait. I should have plenty unless the otter gets past my extra secure cage lid again this year.

Got out on the water this evening after one hell of a week. Caught nothing but rockfish! Some were almost keeper size too! Headed to Dameron Marsh tomorrow with my brother and a friend to do some kayak fishing. Hopefully the bite is good up there too!

Did okay! Did a lot more paddling than fishing. We were scouting it out for a future lottery marsh duck hunt so it was fun to explore. Saw lots of geese and some teal. It's early so none of the real ducks have shown up but we wanted to get accustomed to the area. When we did fish we caught Stripers and reds only. My brother caught a really nice slot red. I'd love to go back but next time I'd like to bring a powered boat hahah too much paddling and not enough fishing!

Got out on the NNK yesterday and found the fish still seem to be in that funky phase between summer and fall. Caught a bunch of specks and reds and a few stripers. A lot of small fish out there but I got some nice ones too, all released with tags. Tried to force feed them topwaters all day long but they just wouldn't have it, only thing I got on top was a lone bluefish.

You did very well. I fished from 6:15 till 10:30. Caught 13 specks, all less than 12", and a 16" puppy drum.

The bite was good today and the wind was down....which was nice. Hooked into some nice specks early.... and then hooked into decent redfish later in the day!

Kevin....if you ever want go out....or need someone to go out with you, let me know! I'm always going by myself, but would love to have some company.

Jay

In other news, there are gill nets all over the shallows now. Some spots that held fish all summer are lifeless.

I fish a rockpile / breakwater just north of Indian Creek. Watched a guy hit a net a couple hundred yards away around 11am Sunday. Coincidentally - or not - I didn’t get a single bite there.

Fished the skinny water and dock lights in the rapp Monday and Tuesday this week before work. Monday was hot and heavy with reds, trout, stripers. Tuesday was much slower with only 3-4 stripers. Looking forward to the water cooling and finding some bigger stripers. How long will the reds typically hang around?

Small ones (15"-19') will be here till Halloween. Bigger ones (22"-25") seemed to have left.

Caught a nice mixed bag of fish this evening. Handful of rockfish, specks and puppy drum. I even caught a flounder! All fish were caught on either a orange popping cork with a white jig head and swimming shad fluke or straight red jig head with ice fluke. Beautiful sunset this evening. Headed out in the early morning to fish some more. Tight lines to all this weekend.

^ Have I told you how jealous I am that you can catch specks and reds in your backyard?

Yesterday I went a little south of the NNK to hit the Piankatank. It was a grind, but I caught some decent specks and a couple reds to upper slot size. Also caught small stripers, a gray trout, and even a spot. A corky, mirrolure 52MR, and a swimming super fluke were the winning lures.

Are you on Windmill Point? I'm pretty sure I've fished those docks. Beautiful location!
