Default The Potomac

Anyone ever put-in, cruise, and/or fish the Potomac as far up as Leesylvania State Park? I'm thinking about just going for a day... maybe just cruising or possibly doing some fishing as well.

Any idea what this part of the river is like for that kind of thing? I would be going soon... sometime in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

Dun

This, except I've only ever caught small catfish.

I've never been up there but know it's still pretty big up that far.......just checked and the river is 2.5 miles wide right there.

I've done plenty of bass fishing up there and all the way to DC, but this has been a bad year for Potomac bass. Plenty of snakeheads around though.

It looks like a big river, and plenty deep as well. Certainly looks worth exploring. I do have the thought of potentially..possibly... heading up to DC for the 4th one time, so I’m also thinking now might be a good time to check the river out.

Leesylvania State park has a very nice, clean facility, several boat ramps, and plenty of deep water.
Right across the river is Mattawoman Creek, a local weekend boater hangout spot, and within sight of the State Park is Tim's River Shore restaurant, which is always a good choice.
I have launched at Leesylvaina many times, and often make the run down to the 301 Bridge area, Capt Billy's, Harrisons, or Popes Creek.

We launched at Leesylania State Park today, and then ran down to the 301 Bridge.
It was a perfect day to spend some time on the water with my wife, and just put some time on the boat.
The park was nice and clean as usual, and there was very light traffic on the Potomac.
My boat has been sitting these last several months, so it was good to make sure everything is properly sorted before heading offshore for the Fall tuna run.

Very nice! Thanks for the update. I’m thinking about going there next weekend. Seems like it’s really a great place to launch from.
