Default Public Ramp in/near Annapolis

Hi All,

I'm heading up to MD weekend after next and planning on taking some friends out on the boat. I'll be northwest of NC. So, looking for a public boat ramp in Annapolis, Baltimore, or anywhere between, from where I can launch. No overnight, just a day trip.

Boat is an 18' CC.

Thanks in advance for any info!

Sandy Point has the biggest ramp and parking lot I've ever seen in a public facility! But I'm a Yankee & the states up north couldn't care less about fishermen so there's probably bigger down south.

Both have decent parking Sandy Point is a HUGE facility. However Depending on when you launch, you may want to avoid. Middle of the day on the weekends the park gets filled to capacity and a mess to get to. You will have to go to Truxtun or a private ramp like Oak Grove Marina (which doesnt have a lot of parking)

If you are looking to avoid the open waters the bay due to wind and chop and stay in the Severn River around Annaopolis, Truxtun is your best bet. Also I am told Smith Marina on the the Severn had a boat ramp. I just have never used it to recommend.

As mentioned, time of day and conditions. Many people fish the Bay bridge and Sandy point is right there.
But if winds pick up and you are not wanting to stay to fish the bridge, it can be a long rough ride to more sheltered waters.
I only spent one year on the bay when I started boating and it was always like clockwork. Morning calm then afternoon winds pick up. Around the mouth of the rivers, sailboats going out and power boats running in. Annapolis was a mess

We use Sandy Point when we boat on the bay. It is a nice facility, but can get pretty busy on nice weekends.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can get people up and moving in the morning when I’m there.

there's a new facility located at Discovery Village in Shadyside on Parish Creek (West River). Hardly anybody knows about it, large lot, plenty of parking but only 1 small ramp. It's kinda out of the way but it's FREE for now.

Sandy Point is much easier to get to. If the approach to the Bay Bridge gets backed up, just use the frontage road. Sandy Point is the last exit before the toll booth.

Sandy Point State Park is a fantastic facility and happens to be one of the only place with enough room to launch my boat on the Western shore. It does get busy on weekends. Bring a lounge chair as it can be quite entertaining.

Good to know. I'll be staying in Fredrick, so just over an hour away. Hopefully I can get people up and moving before it's too late and that place is packed.
I'd probably one of the "entertainers"... but I'll try my best not to be!

I have seen Sandy Point State Park filled to capacity prior to 10am some Saturdays. Usually they try to tweet closures here: https://twitter.com/MDStateParks Definitely have a back up plan if you go on a weekend.

I'm in Damascus and its about 70 minutes to SPSP. Fredneck would be a little longer ride.

Is that a typo or term of endearment? 😁. I’m okay either way.

BTW Frederick is absolutely cosmopolitan compared to where I live!
