Good hearing from you Clint. I too have made the transition over from the old Penn reels and big boat rods to Toriums, Saltists and jigging rods.

The wife and grandkids are huge beneficiaries of the change. I dont know what rods you went to, but a Torium 20 is half the weight of a Penn 113H. Star makes some reasonably priced lightweight jigging rods that are perfect with the reels. My wife can fish her rig all day and it wont tire her out.

I get $28 for a full disassembly, drags and bearings serviced. I can add a molded tbar handle for $20 + $8 labor to drill the old knob off and mount the tbar.

I can also assess these reels for you. They are popular in the charter business and I always have customers looking for red plate Penn 113h reels, if that is what you have. I would be a buyer if interested.

Hey Rick. Have a question for you. I have seen a lot of reviews on your work over the last couple years and you are well liked! I have a few old penn senators that are literally 30+ years old. I don't use them anymore and have been shopping for new bottom fishing rigs. My problem with the reels and rods I have is that I have 3 kids, all in middle school / high school. The rods have been too big for them to use in the past for bottom fishing. They are just bulky and heavy. But, that being said, the rigs I have been looking at are really not much lighter. I was looking at Daiwa star drags and also toriums, etc.

If I were to have you service the 3 senators and put new / upgraded handles on them so they are easier to crank for the kids, how much would that cost? I am just trying to determine if I want to fix these old senators or go with new rigs. Thanks man.

    Clint

    Rick,
Can you Paypal invoice me for a 80W clamp and hardware as shown below? sloanbrown@yahoo.com

Sorry Ken, but the way the clamp studs mount in the reel is different...

The Shimano Tiagra 80 and 130 has a very substantial clamp on it...and it can get pricey.

I usually give THT members around 10% off retail for most anything Shimano...so here is the breakdown:

    (4) TT 804 studs $12.88 $51.52
    (4) TT 391 nuts $1.00 $4
    (4) TT 739 nuts $3.95 $15.80
    (1) TT738 clamp $16.00

    Total for the above retail is $87.32 - $8.72 = $78.60

I'll need $4 for first class mail or $7 for usps priority mail

Let me know if this helps...

Rick, You should do great in the backcountry as the spanish and kings are in. We use to get spanish and smoke them for dip.chum and cut bait/shrimp would do it. Going offshore should be no problem with Harlian. Just like up by you in the gulf. Just got to know where they are. Good luck.. We are back in Ft Lauderdale for Dr. apointments and a few get togethers. Enjoied R V ing this summer and bought a RV site in Zeffer hills to store the coach as it was too much $$$ down here. Will be going back after Thanksgiving. If we get up towards Brooksville will call you for lunch or just to see ya. Good luck in the Keys and have a great Thanksgiving with family. Jim

I mistakenly clicked on the THT Calendar for the first time which I didn't know existed . Curious I clicked on a name I recognized I realized it listed birthdays among other things . So as not to waste the effort of my mistake I would like to wish you a pre dated ...

    Hi Rick
I'm hoping you can help me with some info
I have a couple of Shimano baitrunner 8000's that you have serviced a while back
I remember when I bought them they came with washers to shape the line on the spool when you retrieve

I don't have the washers or remember where they go

I changed over to braid and now they're loading up towards the front of the spool
I want to push some of this back in the spool to make it more evenly packed

    Any thoughts?

Good evening. I have a Penn 114 that was my fathers and I would like to get it cleaned up the best it can be. I would rather keep it all original if possible. there is some corrosion, but hoping it can be made to look presentable again. Is this something you could do? Thank you.

Rick- hope all is well. You did some handles for me a few years ago. Love them.

I am wondering if you have a reel clamp for an older Avet 4/0? I would need the studs as well.

Blue or black would be best

    Thanks

Do you have talica 50 handles? I have a broken talica 20ii handle that needs replacing. I think I read recently that a 50 handle can be used to upgrade. Thank you
