No need for long leaders and heavy flouro, we used 4' leaders and caught fish constantly. They will rig all your rods for you if you let them, with their leader and hooks. I would recommend taking some 2-3 oz. glow weights for knocker rigs, seeing as they only rig the rods one way. I would fish a knocker exclusively if I had it to do over. I don't think you will need to worry about squid at night as they provided all the cut bait or live bait you need. you will be too busy reeling up Mangroves all night to worry about squid. It may be difficult to leave a "drift' line out and keep fishing as you don't have much rail in your slot to fish and keep a rod on the drift. I hope you have as good a trip as we did and let me know how it goes. If you need anything else just ask and I'll try to help you out best I can!

Getting ready for the 2 day Middle Grounds trip. I think I'm more anxious than my wedding day. Since you been there, done that,I wanted to ask any advice you might have.
I have 30 lb braid on my sustain 10,000 on a heavy 7' st croix mojo. Maybe overkill for mangrove.should I use a long leader (15' flouro.) and 30 lb test? I was going to use a #4 circle. Do they use knocker rigs or put the egg sinker before the swivel on the leader.
My "grouper" rod is the one I used with you for red snapper. A stella 20,000 on a 7.2 Terez XH.It has 80 lb braid and I was thinking a 80 or 100 lb leader.
You mentioned you brought too many rods. I was thinking of bringing a rod to jig with and another floater line with live bait.
This might be way off but are their squid to be caught at night with a squid lure?
I'm taking your advice and stopping in Gulf Shores for a few days to do some speckled trout fishing at Little Lagoon. I'll arrive a good day earlier.

    Hey,
Sent a PM for dates to do tuna. Question: On Gulf Star how important is space one fishes on boat and is one bunk better than another. Think a November full moon trip be worthwhile or wait till spring ?
