My boat was built with the B260 Glassed into the hull, there for I had no use for the Fairing block. I just had to remove the glassed in ducer and install a new one. I can say that Gill actually suggests the fairing block as opposed to glassed in. I have a feeling if it isn't glassed in just right it doesn't work well, but the fairing block leaves some room for error.
I was actually able to buy the ducer without the fairing block and it saved me some $ on the new ducer. In my case I had no use for it, and if I wanted to use the fairing block I would have to have mounted it off to the side and either leave the old ducer in or remove it and fill the hole. My boat lives on a trailer which can cause problems with fairing blocks if they are not placed just right. In my case I have room for either but in my eyes working with what I had was much easier than repairing and making new holes.
