I've been very happy with my 2011 296 and the 2016 is only better. They improved any shortcomings on my boat by 2016. The console door works well with an improved design that I retrofitted to my boat. They moved the batteries from the bilge to the leaning post to get them out of the wet zone and to bring weight forward, which I will be doing this winter. They come standard with windlass, which I added. Fit and finish is top shelf. The ride is good. 21 1/2 degree deadrise while being 29' 7'' with 10 ft beam puts you at a 3 : 1 ratio, which is good in a head sea, but not Contender numbers (31 loa with 8' 6" beam missile numbers in a head sea).
Good Luck hope this has helped

I would like to know a little more about your experience with the Cobia 296.

I'm moving up from a worldcat catamaran, and quite frankly will not pay the absurd price for their next model up, in order to get to the 29-30 ft range. I am now considering a 2016 296.

I would appreciate any insights into the ride (i mostly fish out of the gulf of mexico), fit/finish, and overall reliability of the boat and its systems. I've been boating for over 20 years and spent time in the coast guard, so the seas are my second home. My priorities are safety, ride comfort, and for the family, amenities.

I appreciate any assistance beyond what I've read on this forum. Thank you in advance.
