    Brandon,

Mercury requires AGM batteries for Verados. The best brands are Odyssey, Sears DieHard Platinum, Intimidator, or any other brand manufactured by East Penn Manufacturing. 24 series will work fine for the engine batteries, as long as they are AGMs. The house battery(s) can be any size you want, such as 27 or 31, and doesn't have to be an AGM. AGM batteries are required for the engines due to the voltage drops the DTS systems can cause.

Although your problem is most likely the alternator, make sure to check continuity of the fusible link between the alternator and the battery power cable stud. I've seen a few of these randomly fail. If it fails, you will have a no charging situation and your multi-meter will actually show 24+ volts when checking voltage coming out of the alternator. Don't forget, you can save yourself a little time and money by having the alternators rebuilt if need be.

Let me know if you need any more help.

    Thanks,

    Casey

hey Casey, i have an issue i was told you may be able to help with

i recently bought a 2009 YF 32 with 2009 300 Verados, last weekend we got a low voltage alert offshore, i parralled the port battery and came home to test the batteries and get a spare. new battery didnt last long and we had the same problem.

sooo i know that the port motor is not charging and im going to put new alternators in both motors, but after a post i put in the Gulf COast section on here Tiretyme sent me a bulletin about Verado 300's needing bigger battery cables and Group 31 batteries.......

well i have 4 group 27 blue top Optimas 2 of which are new, do i need to put the group 27's in my bay boat and switch to group 31's or will i be ok with the set-up that has seemed to work on this boat for the last 900hrs????

    thanks for your help
    Brandon
