Default McKee molds to be auctioned

Just read an ad in the local paper where the McKee Craft molds will be auctioned off. Ad reads that the molds will be sold to a single bidder. FYI

It is sad to see all the molds being auctioned off, but maybe someone will continue to build these great boats. Even with company dead, I am glad I got my boat.

Someone bought all the McKee molds today at the auction. Auctioneer wouldn't disclose the buyer but said he plans to begin production soon.

I was under the impression that Chaos boatworks was going to build the Mckee's out of their shop. What happened to that plan?

I'm with Vettman...still trying to find out what happened to the Chaos plan. The molds were delivered to Chaos back in the spring.

Hopefully the new builder will hire the shop managers who knew how to build these pressure foamed boats and I hope they keep the McKee name (if that is available)

Now I'm confused also. The molds were supposedly at the plant that builds Chaos and Savannah skiffs. Who sold the molds? Was it Hunt, or ????? It was my understanding that Hunt still owned the molds and had some agreement with the Chaos folks. Wouldn't it be cool if the McKees bought back thier own molds and Hunt was out of the picture..

I called one of the Chaos dealers a couple months back and they were also saying something was in the works to start building in their factory. I agree it would be no greater justice for the McKees to get their molds back. Sounds like they got into a nightmare business deal with this Hunt character. Hoping they make it back. I wish someone could chime in from the family or the past company to at least let us know something.

IF the McKee family did not buy them I hope they get back to them somehow.

Any updates on this yet? I've been out of the loop...don't see anything posted and I don't think anyone started a new thread about it, but figured I'd ask...

Shame things happened the way they did, Mckee sure built a great boat. Would love to see someone who knows what they are doing get things going again.

Wonder if we'll see the boats produced under a different name...

A Florida fellow named Hunt James bought the McKee molds about a month ago at auction. Don't know his plans but rumor is he will be back in production at some unspecified future date.
