Default Raymarine Element 9 vs. Lowrance Live 9

Trying to figure out which of these to get. I have Raymarine gear on my BW, but most folks around here run Lowrance (Lake Erie). Gonna be fishing a lot for Walleye, Smallmouth and Musky - using side scan sonar a lot.

Has anyone played with an Element yet? Thoughts? I know it doesn't have a touch screen, but I'm more interested in how well it marks fish.

Thanks!

I have been testing first the Element 9 since December and then the 12 for the last 6 weeks. They are very nice machines at a great price point. Some anglers this is all you need.It is not networkable. It does have Engine enterface capibility. It is a GPS chartplotter that will run Navionics or C-map.It has 4 differnt sonars. Traditional chirp,Sidevision, downvision and 3d.You can switch from 350kh to 1.2 MH for clearer images in sidevision,downvision..Our machines were installed with one of the first thru hulls. It works great. The Element runs on Raymarines new Lighthouse sport software. It is very easy to learn. It is very similar to Lighthouse 3 on the Axiom XL,Axiom,Axiom pro and GS,ES series.I purposely did not read the manual.Had everything figured out in a hour.It marks fish and structure very nice.It has manual or auto,Gain, density and surface filter.I regulary have mine up when viewing a Axiom XL22 with a CP470,CP370 and a RVX1000 all at the same time.It is a great little machine.Raymarine has been advertising the Element since November 18.It was early, even before we started testing them. They were released to the public about a week to 10 days ago. They will start showing up very soon..Capt.Mike

Lowrance HDS Live is comparable to Axiom Pro, not Element. Element is a button operated Sonar - Chart plotter combo unit without Ethernet, not a networkable touch MFD like HDS Live.

Elite Ti2 is the Lowrance unit in the same segment as Element. Elite Ti2 has touch and wireless networking.

I'd have to sy Lowrance HDS Live all day long. In my opinion the best unit out there right now. Quad4 processor, solar max screen (screen doesn't absorb sunlight and get hot, great screen quality in direct sun from all angles, very high resolution images, HDMI In, great 2d sonar, side/down scan. With the quality of the 3in1 active image transducer, I can even run 800khz on side scan and get high quality detail at the distance required for side scan (150ft either side of boat). Before, you were usually running 455khz for side scan, which gives you a bigger cone size, but less detail. Awesome!........ Solid option on the market right now!

To clarify, I don't need networking and I don't care too much about touch screen or button. My main concern is identifying fish.

Ended up buying the Lowrance Live 9. I like Raymarine products - they're pro team just doesn't give enough information on how to use them for fishing. The Elite Ti2 bezel looks like crap on a fiberglass center console flush mount - it's too big.

Do you have screen shots from your Element?
