I think coming spring they come up with a promotion, they give you a personal PLB when you buy an EPIRB. I bought mine at the Miami boat show about 3 years ago and they gave me the ditch bag, strobe light some other miscellaneous stuff and 1 year subscription to ACR website where you can test them and get a report.

Put together a group buy here. I would advise against the 10 yr battery models. Technology is moving too fast.

ACR used to have a sale or a $50 rebate around Ft Lauderdale Boat Show time, but ever since the company sold a couple of years ago, they have not had a sale that I am aware of?

So if I have a 5 yr battery and that 5 years goes by and I have no reason to REPLACE my epirb bc its an epirb that sends a signal to a satellite, I should instead buy a NEW one just because?

And what does the battery life have to do w the quality or performance of the unit?
Do you have personal experience with the Ocean signal that shows it is inferior to the ACR?

If you need one, then just get one. I don't believe waiting for some kind of sale is worth it when it comes to safety equipment. If they do have some weekend sale, keep in mind they will not all of a sudden just give them away, it'll still be expensive.

If you're a member of West Advantage Rewards you can just wait for then next 'triple points' event, those usually happen around the holidays. They just had one a couple of weeks ago.

Sounds like you do not live in New England, where my boat is under a cover...and snow, for at least another month. I suppose if my house gets washed out to sea in a flash flood, I would wish I had it strapped to the underside of my kitchen ceiling. Typical THT.

I just picked up a PLB1 at the Stuart boat show and the company also manufactures EPIRB and they seemed to be a bit more advanced than ACR plus smaller. You may be able to get a 'boat show' special since Miami Boat show is this week.

EPIRB1 - Ocean Signal

i have an acr which I got on a group buy here. I say buy the 5 year because they are cheaper and cost is dropping. After 4 years sell it and get a new one. I put 200+ hours on my boat per year so yes I get rod do them when they say the battery life is up.

WOW really!!!

I grew up in Northern New Jersey! And lived in the Midwest for 16 years! What exactly is typical THT?!

Go ahead and wait to save $50, which will most likely never happen. I really do not care.

I think your reply to me is more in par with "typical THT".

Enjoy the rest of your day friend.

I got mine from West Marine. I got it when they started their price matching guarantee. I paid $336.00 for it when West Marine had it listed for $449.00. I was going to link the website that had it for that cheap but it seems they are now charging $449.95. I always assumed that the site I used had it marked incorrectly. I posted on here and a few other members managed to get West Marine to match it as well. So hopefully you can find a site that marked the price wrong

Stopped by the ACR display at the Miami Boat Show for you yesterday.

Spoke to a rep that appeared to be someone with an office that had windows, I took the liberty and asked him if they ever have any sales throughout the year. His answer, "no, not any more". He said they only provide their products to authorized retailers, this due to the internet, too many non-authorized retailers were selling them, he listed tire companies, even a cosmetic retailer. ARC only wants to sell their equipment to retailers that can service and support their brand and products. He also said ARC now only uses MAP Pricing, same thing Garmin, Raymarine, Maui Jim, Casio and others now use.

Going back to my original comment, the point I was trying to make was this, if anyone needs or wants one, just buy it and never look back. Albeit, $200 for a PLB or $500 for an EPIRB, just buy and put it in a ditch bag or mount it in your boat and hopefully it'll just become dusty. In my financial experience, if I try and wait for the perfect time to spend this kind of money for something I need it usually never happens, due to a call for a plumber or electrician, or maybe check engine light just out of warranty. In my personal and professional opinion, it's better to have something and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Your post title is "Need EPIRB", I assumed you needed it now. If it had read, "Looking For an EPIRB" or "Like To Add an EPIRB to my Ditch Bag this Spring" then I wouldn't have said just buy it now. I also did not want to assume that you weren't currently boating with your location that read New Hampshire, there are plenty of boats operating and working up in your neck of the woods during the winter, conversely there are more than plenty of New England'ers boating down here in SE FL as well. Another words, I was simply going off the information you provided, and if this makes me a "more than typical THT" member or "typical New Jersey" then so be it.

I hope this information helps you or anyone else looking to purchase an ARC product in the near future. We have a PLB and EPIRB, I think they're worth every dime, ARC provides a quality product, a product that we hope never has to be activated.
