Default "Porting" your anchor locker for the subs?

I have two subs mounted on the front of my boat. Behind them is the anchor locker. Can that anchor locker be "ported" with a couple 4-inch holes behind the coaming pads so that they "ports" couldn't be seen?

I think this would greatly reduce the amount of rattling the anchor locker hatch does, no?

I would not recommend porting. Use some rubber weather stripping to help reduce vibrations.

Hey look, Defender joined the club.

OP have you tried installing a rubber gasket where the lid makes contact?

Just cutting holes won’t work for the ports. There are a couple free software programs you can use if you want to do it right. Put the speakers in, calculate the air volume put the port size in and it will tell you the length of the port tube.

i use winISD but they are all probably the same. You will need to put the htz you want to tune to also 32-40 is generally the sweet spot.

In a properly designed ported enclosure, the ports will actually increase output and therefore increase rattling!
