Nah - that doesn't work: too many syllables.

Im loving the haikus🍣! But Im going to jump in here with my own question and maybe help out op too.

I have a 4kw garmin 7-8 years old that died recently. It has needed periodic other repairs over the last few years and now Im told it needs to be shipped back to factory with flat charge $2000. Honestly I dont feel like spending more money on this thing but I do use it once in a while, mostly for weather and nite driving. I bottom fish mostly and have never used it for birds

It was suggested to me that maybe a closed array would be good alternative, lighter and cheaper. It sits on hard top. Interfaces with 5212. Wondering if any of you poets have suggestions.

Well, I'm not a Garmin guy, but I just put on a Simrad 4G for exactly the reasons you state and it blows my mind how good it is. I don't know the Garmin units (I'm sure someone else will chime in) but you can certainly buy a new HD dome for less than $2K if you have a compatible MFD.

Depending on your boat size, a radar dome could be a good option. I would look at the Garmin GMR 18xHD radome. I believe it is compatible with the 5212. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/86.../010-00959-00#

Thanks- that was the one I was looking at. Any idea whether it fits the same mounting holes as the open array? It would be nice. And are radars from other makers compatible with the garmin 5212? Ive had zero trouble with the gps, but not so much luck with their radar. I guess Id be inclined to stick with garmin if the unit would just drop in plug and play

I'm not your man to answer those questions. Although to maximize functionality, you want to stay within the same manufacturer "ecosystem"
Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.

You can print a mounting template from the website and see if it fits.
