Default Navman 5100

Anyone have this unit and have any problems? It has worked great over the last four months but the other day I turned it on and I could hear it beep but no display. The only thing that changed is that I took the map chip out for about a week to use on another boat and re-installed it. Just curious before I call Navman for warranty work.

My 5100 has worked flawlessly, except for the fuel option. I have 2 engines, and the port reading is always low or at 0 mpg. I sent the unit back after tech had me try a "hard reset" which involves holding the "menu" button as you power-up. You would then answer "yes" to clearing RAM. That didn't work. Navman couldn't find anything wrong, but they did update my software from 1.4.9 to 1.5.2.

If you're interrested, it turned out to be a bad cable from the fuel "T" to the unit.

Same thing happens to my Navman 5600 occasionally. Very frustrating. I turn it on, it beeps and keys light up but display is black. I turn it on and off repeatedly and eventually it powers up normally. Seems to happen more often when the unit has not been used for a week.
I may just send it back to Navman during the off-season and get the software update as well.
Let me know how you make out.

Looks like I'm headed to the warranty department as I just found this on their web site:

Title: completely black screen/backlight doesn't work.
Question/Symptom:
My Chartplotter has a completely black screen/backlight doesn't work

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer/Solution:
The high voltage transformer used in the Chartplotter for the fluorescent tube backlight has been known to fail on occasions, especially on the earlier models before the design of the transformer was improved. This can cause problems as described above. Return the unit for service.
