Default Quick and dirty fuel flow meter?

I have an older lowrance elite 4m plotter that I believe has an NMEA 0183 interface so I can't use most of the modern integrated sensors. No plans to replace it, works fine for what I need it for. Any recommendations for a simple, cost effective standalone unit? Gas outboard, thanks!

not a "recommendation" - no personal experience with it -
but an "FYI"
if you have an iPhone, it doesn't get any simpler than this:

Optio Fuel Flow Sensor

That's pretty cool, I'll look into it. Doesn't get much easier than that...

Great idea, but if the battery will only last "up to one season", the decimal point is in the wrong place. $400/season per engine is a bit steep for fuel flow.

A floscan twinscan will only run you about $800, which is what these would cost for twins.

Great idea though.

Agreed, it looks like it uses a simple coin-style watch battery but doesn't appear to be easily replaceable. Thanks for the input.

I'm not endorsing the product, just reporting...

from the FAQs:How is Optio Fuel powered?

Optio Fuel is powered by a CR2450 battery that can be easily changed. Due to the low power draw of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices the battery will not need to be serviced very often, usually not more than once a year.
These batteries are available at most retail stores like Camera shops, Pharmacies and even Grocery stores. they are quite common and cost about $4 to $8 CDN.

Hmm, missed that somehow. Nevermind.

looks like a great solution...if it cost $100 to $200.

for an $800 price point I'd go with an integrated permanent solution that works with the boat's systems rather than annual watch batteries and my iphone
