Default Auto Pilot Issues

I have a Raymarine p70 auto pilot. Every time I set a waypoint I get pissed. Yes, it will get me there but I probably travel twice as far because of all the snaking this thing does. Will it not stay on course??? Can auto pilots work on a center console traveling 35-40 mph or is the speed just to great to keep up?? Need help please.

Re do the seatrail calibration. If it still snakes. You need to manually adjust it.

actually those newer pilots don't do the auto learn sea trail. You might need to manual adust gain and ruder etc. Read the manual.

Raymarine Fluxgate Autopilot Compass Sensors are notorious for failing. That would be where I would start.

What pilot is it and what GPS do you have driving it?

I'm going to guess its an evolution pilot that your p70 controller drives?
What is your deviation on the compass? You can see that in the menu...
I would restart the compass, perform slow circles again and check the deviation again after that.
