Default What kind power power is needed?

I'm thinking about taking my serious satellite radio and putting it in my boat. I know nothing of what i would need for this. I'm assuming i can't just hook it up directly to the battery and plug in some low power speakers (or can i?). So what would i need to do this? Thanks

Would i need a spare battery? or would that just overload the alternator. I'm not really sure where to start.

TyLord, I am going to ignore your sarcastic remark to Elusive, who is a very respected member of this forum. You need to tell us what type of Siruis reciever you own. Most recievers use only a few amps, and can be run off the same battery that your engine runs from. You will also need an amplifier or A M/ FM radio reciever to amplify signal output from the Sirius reciever. For example I use the Sirius sporster in a automobile bracket. This includes an antenna, a cigarette lighter plug in and two outputs. You can either select FM output to any FM radio on a channel which does not have a station broadcasting on it nearby, or you have a 1/8" 3 channel jack which can be put into any amp or reciever. You cannot use speakers directly from the Sirius module. You can use amplified speakers, such as are available at Radio Shack, but the sound level will not be adequate for use in your boat underway.

I hope that helps you sort out what is needed.

I've got basically the same sirius receiver setup. I have a lighter plug with terminal adapters that will run directly off the battery and let me plug in the receiver. I am able to just plug the sirius receiver directly into some low power speakers, but they give me barely anything to work with (obviously). My main concern is that i don't know how effectively the battery is charged on an OB and what it can handle (i.e. an amp, fishfinder, gps). Thanks for the useful comments thataway.
