Default Garmin 182c

Ok guys I purchased the Garmin 182c with internal antenna and the GSD20. My question is which transducer do I need. I think I misunderstood the salesman, I wanted a transducer that would shoot through the hull. I do not want to drill through the hull, I want the transducer to shoot through it. I bought the thru-hull plastic transducer but I was reading the directions and I think it is not what I want. Thanks for the help.

By the way, I found the 182c on the internet for 849.99 and west marine matched the price and gave me a 10% discount because I signed up for a credit card. So basically I ended up getting the 182c and the GSD20 for the same price as most people buy the 182c alone for. Just wanted to pass along the tip.

Now that you have made your purchase go to www.garmin.com to register your unit and go to Special Promotions. They are offering a $100 rebate if your turn in an old GPS or Loran. They are also offering a $50 rebate on the BlueChart chip or CD.

As far as your transducer goes. It sounds like the one they gave you will require that you drill through your hull not shoot through the hull. I have a transom mount for my Furuno 600L and it works great up to about 20 mph. I haven't had any experience but it would seem to me that the "Shoot through the Hull" would lose sensitivity. I would go with the transom mount but that is just a personal opinion. I can't speak from experience though I am sure others here can.

Transducers that you epoxy to the Inside of your hull, say in the bilge, and shoot thru the hull will not work with certain hull materials. (I think it's most of the cored type stuff).

Sorta sounds like you might have gotten a "Thru Hull transducer", requiring a hole and fairing block on the outside of the hull.

At any rate, once you get it all installed and a few trips under your belt, please report back on the GSD unit. I'd like to hear a real world review of it.

I didn't buy mine online. I bought it from Boater's World at the Fred Hall Show in Long Beach.

(I also have the 600L and so far I love it.)

Where did you get the price to show them all the dealers in this area do the same thing. And how much was the 600l. The best I did was 698 with the transom transducer

I found the 182c at GPS4FUN.com, then printed out the price and showed it to the salesman at west marine, no hassle involved.

My boat is a 20 ft Sea Hunt dual console. Limited space on the console is why I chose to buy the 182c with GSD20. I called Garmin and they told me that I wanted an "in-hull" transducer. I returned the other transducer and bought the in-hull. I started to read the directions and it was recommended for speed boats and sailboats. Am I doing the right thing? All I want is to do is use the depth feature at high speeds. Thanks for the replies.

I heard the tru hull was the best but I cannot drill a hole in a brand new hull. When I spoke to the Furuno dealer he said the transom mount was fine if it was mounted properly. This is all just what I heard not from experience. What did you pay for the 600L?
