Default Navionics+ vs C-Map Insight Pro

I just purchased a SIMRAD Go9 XSE. The package included a Navionics+ card that was one of the reasons I purchased the unit. To my surprise, inside the box there was also a C-Map Insight Pro card. I'll mostly be fishing the Chesapeake Bay, near shore around OCMD and Pamlico Sound around the OBX.

I was planning on setting up my iPad w/ SonarChart Live and using the iPad for navigation.

Any benefits of one over the other? I definitely want to record trips to create my own maps.

Try them both and then fill us in with your thoughts! I'm curious to hear thoughts on C-Map genesis vs SonarChart live.

Will do!

is it possible to have both cards loaded and switch back and forth between the two charts?

Keep in mind Navionics+ is not Navionics Platinum+.

Yes, simply remove the chip and place the other one in. The Simrad units usually ask if you want to switch to inserted charts(they are also preloaded with Insight) a few seconds after you put it in. Otherwise you can change the chart in the menu.

Yes it is. I have both Navionics and C-Map. As they come Navionics has more information/detail. The big advantage with C-Map comes when you upload your own sonar logs from which you can then download your own maps which can either be private to you or made available to the C-Map community. Navionics is now owned by Garmin and C-Map is now part of the Navico/Simrad family. These ownerships have come about fairly recently and it will be interesting to see what developments ensue.

I run both Navionics+ Regions and Navionics Platinum+ in my Simrad NSS Evo3. Always have for as long as I remember. Mostly the Platinum+ nowadays as its a great "do all" card for me. Navigation chart, sonar chart 1ft contours, satellite imagery overlay, 3D views..... Couldn't really ask for more and gets the job done in all my situations from fishing shallow in the marsh using the satellite imagery to fishing deep in the inlets or offshore. Navionics has sonar logs as well, where you can upload your own sonar charts. You can choose to just keep them on your unit and not upload them into an update, but uploading them into an update doesn't give away any secrets. Just improves the sonar chart mapping. Easy use for me.
