Default Adding 2nd VHF to CC...

I am going to be installing a 2nd fixed mount VHF (SH GX2200) on my CC. I currently have a SH 1150 mounted on my dash, which is okay, but I would like to replace that one w/the better more feature laden GX2200 (GPS/AIS) and relocate the 1150 as a back up to inside the console.

The primary motivation behind moving to inside the console is to keep the dash area more clean/less holes and to leave room for other accessories.

Any issues w/mounting a VHF inside the console that I might not be considering?

As far as I know there are no federal regulations that dictate where you can install a VHF Marine Band radio on a voluntarily equipped recreational boat. I doubt there could ever be an issue over this.

As for any operational problems, the only thing that comes to mind is possible degradation of the internal GPS receiver due to obstruction of view.

Thanks. The 1150 doesn't have a gps antenna, this would go inside the console. The new GX2200 would be mounted out in the open on the dash next the MFD's - under a t-top.
