Default Transom Mount Transducer Location on Multi-level Hull

I have a Grady White Voyager with an integrated bracket/swim platform, therefore the lowest point of the hull is several feet in front of what appears to be the transom when the boat is in the water (wish i had a picture). Anyway, there is a step of maybe 12-18 inches in height from the transom drain to the bottom of the integrated platform. I'm planning to install a Simrad GO9 with the transom mount transducer and would like to get depth reading while underway. Does the transducer need to be installed near the drain plug or can it be installed at the bottom of the Platform. I've seen pictures of the transducer in both locations, but i'm looking for any real experience with such an installation, especially those installed on the platform. Thanks

Do you have a photo of your transom?

I'm afraid I don't have a pic and the boat is not at my house. After reading thru a boat load of transducer threads, it seems the consensus is that the transducer should not be installed on the platform (as i suspected). I was hoping someone had successfully done the install on the platform, since mounting it way down near the drain will require drilling 2-3 more holes below the waterline to secure the wire
