Default Raymarine Axiom very disappointing!

I purchased a Raymarine Axiom with the new Flir 232 last year for fishing in Venice Louisiana and have had nothing but problems with this new MFD - even after replacing the initial unit! Multiple times the Axiom has died leaving us without radar or chartograpy on the river at night and just last Friday in the fog. Thank God for the backup E97 unit! The Clearcruise and auto-routing have yet to work, even after recent updates!!! Has anyone else had problems with these units?

How has Raymarine been in their responsiveness to your issues with the unit? What are the exact issues you've been having?

Sea-trac Offshore, authorized Raymarine installer, who installed both units has been fantastic. The first unit would repeatedly shut down and only reset after turning off all power to the boat . Sea-trac was very responsive and actually drove down twice to check on unit. They decided that the Axiom was defective and would replace the unit with a new one.

Before Sea-trac replaced the unit I trailered the boat up to Outcast marine, top notch guys, to do a complete check on the wiring system and to replace anything they found that was a concern. The boat was at Outcast for well over a month checking everything out. While they were doing a complete wiring diagnostic, Sea-trac install the second unit.

I picked the boat up last Monday for a week of tuna fishing in Venice, sure enough at the most unopportune time on Friday morning the Axiom decides to just shut down on the river during a section of heavy fog. What an exhilarating sensation to lose radar and your chartography on that river during late winter and early spring - for that fact anytime during low light conditions. We could not get this second unit to power on no matter what we did.

We have two AXIOM pro's a 16 and 9, Quantum radar, Evolution pilot.I have used them for about 25 charters. 100 miles a day offshore.Used them in heavy fog, rain and heavy seas.No complaints from me.Been Flawless, .I'm no expert but I've had multiple systems professionally installed.Just a thought..If the machine keeps turning off and a replacement did the same, sounds like a voltage issue. The machine will turn off if it gets below 11 volts around 10.7.Capt.Mike

That’s what I thought as well, and the reason I had all the wiring checked out, but it should effect all the other electronics on the boat as well: auto pilot, M232, radar, radios, E97 unit, fusion stereo. I also replaced the batteries, installed a new battery charger and I carefully monitor the battery volts on the system while on the water. I can tell you this new Axiom install has cost big bucks in service and repair. Just unlucky I guess but I feel a lot better knowing the wiring was throughly checked out by Outcast and Sea-trac offshore.

The recent Axiom is D.O.A., but the autopilot and E97 are flawless. I also run 100+ mile days offshore chasing Pelagics, just wish I could easily switch the radar over to the E97 without tearing up the dash.

I talked to Tom, and no doubt Raymarine will make it right.

Raymarine customer support is fantastic. I am positive you will have a different opinion shortly.

Frustrating for sure, hope you get it all straightened out... did you have a chance to try out the FLIR M232? I am on fence whether to get it or not. Saw it at the AC Boat show and looked like it would do the job but that obviously wasn't at sea in rocking and rollin conditions.

thanks for any feedback you can share.

Sounds frustrating for sure. The only thing that frustrated me was how long it took them to release LH3 for eS series. My Axiom, Quantum radar, and eS have been excellent. Just added EV-150. All home installed by me and no issues at all.

Twin 12" axioms for almost a year now. Not one problem to date, yes couple of the updates were needed for sure. But not one problem with them not working.

Good luck !

Stupid question, have you checked your ground to see if it's loose?

I had Raymarine 9" MFD with RV100 and everything self-installed on my Kayak and removable to my Open bow 17 feet long boat. I have no issues either so far after using it for 2 months. Fingers crossed here.

Was going to buy a radar to find birds for fishing in Chesapeake bay but now they have it compatible for DRONE that can self fly and up to 4.5 miles radius with first person view mirrored onto Axiom MFD. So, scratched the radar. Will buy a DRONE instead to hunt the birds for fishing in the bay.
