Default No Power on Garmin echoMap 74dv

I recently purchased a used Garmin echomap 74dv and a brand new power cable for it, and the unit will not power up at all. I tested the voltage from the cable and i'm getting 14V+.

Is there an internal fuse on these units that blow? That's about the only thing I can think of off the bat. I don't know where else to look for the problem so I appreciate anyone's input.

Thank you in advance

No internal fuse...try holding the power button down for about a 30 sec to a minute.
Make certain pins are clean..
You may have a bad unit..

It did work previously and does not work now?

Or

Bought it used and the first time you hooked it up it won't power on?

If you checked power at the connection at the end of your power cord and it still won't power on I would think they sold you a shot unit...

It's probably okay. Make real sure you have the alignment indicators just right, the push in hard. Then push some more. You have to push harder than you think you should. This kind of problem is not unusual.
Let us know if that solved the problem.

And if you are not aligned just right and push this hard. Well.....that would be really bad.

Thank you for the replies thus far. Sorry for reporting back so late.. been really busy.

The unit was not working from the time I received it, so I never had it powered up. I plugged the power cable in and held the power button down for 60+ seconds and nothing happened. I also pressed the connector in as far as it would go with the indicators properly aligned, and still no power.

I took out all the screws in the back and have the unit opened up. Any ideas from this point, perhaps what to look for? I really don't feel like shelling out $160 for a Garmin repair if it's something I can do myself.

Did the previous owner sell this to you as a working unit? I would request a refund if it were me....

Maybe someone else can chime in on DIY repair.... good luck

**UPDATE**

I finally got the unit to power on... it turned out to be one of the interior ribbon cables was loose, so I attached it better, hooked it up to the power cable while the unit was still open, and Presto.. POWER!

Thank you to everyone for chiming in!

Best Regards
