iBobber Fish Finder?????

Bear with me on this one. My sister wants to by my son (her nephew) one of these things and asked me what I knew about them. I said "nothing" as I had never heard of it. Checked them out and they look kinda neat but. My son goes to school on the coast and fishes quite a lot but, without a boat, he is relegated to surf/shore/pier fishing.

It isn't expensive but, I hate for my sister to waste money on something crappy so I was just wondering if anyone has ever used/seen one or has any firsthand experience or input?

Thanks

Tell her to buy him a 30lb Boga instead..... the "real" one from eastaboga tackle

And put a float on it...

My wife got me one and I never use it. I have issues with it never syncing with my phone so it basically collects dust. I told her to return it right after she bought it. Lowrance and a few others are now making them that guys say work well. But kind of agree money could be spent on other fishing gear he'd need.

I doubt it will survive saltwater. Looks like it would be worthless in anything but calm water.

Have her look at the new Garmin Striker Plus 4.

Lowrance has a similar product called the FishHunter. I believe there are two different models of the FishHunter. We have not sold very many of these and I have honestly not tested one out yet or really even had time to look at them in depth. I have heard of mixed reviews about the iBobber and some other brands. In my opinion if he wants to get into surf fishing a couple books or videos about how to read the surf with where and what to look for would be a lot more valuable than a sonar bobber. While the concept is interesting on these bobber sonars I think learning to read and interpret the water on beaches, jetties, and piers would be a much better source of info to find fish.

Kinda figured it was not worth it, thanks. I can tell her I sought "expert" opinions.
