Heading sensor

So I picked up a heading sensor Furuno pg1000 to add to my navnet VX-2. I am under the impression that the heading sensor will instruct my VX2 in what direction the bow is pointing in at all times. Even if the boat is backing up the bow will still show correct on the screen instead of spinning and pointing backwards. I am also hoping that it will correct the issue I have while riding in heading up mode on the vx2 that it will always keep it straight up and down, because sometimes now it will show at an angle and not always straight up. Are my thoughts correct on these issues. Also I am under the impression that in order to have radar overlay correct I needed this sensor. School me up.

yes. once it is installed and calibrated.

if you have an autopilot on board you already have a heading sensor. it just may not have been hooked up to the plotter.

I have a newer Garmin auto pilot that I do not think is all linked to the Furuno system I may be wrong about that thou. I guess I will have to chase some wires and see where things go. I got the heading sensor with the purchase of a 6kw open array.
