mine still works great...there are some great electronics people on here who can answer more on the technology side of your question. I plan on upgrading this coming season.

outdated by todays standards, but a good plotter in its day (about 10 years ago), but I believe you cannot get updates for its internal chart database so not something I would sink money into. If it was on a boat that I got and found the charts accurate enough for my area, there is no rush to replace it if you just want basic navigation. It does come from a period, however, that the sounder and radars that would work with it from Garmin generally sucked ass in comparison to pretty much everyone else's, so depending on what you want, it might need to be ditched if you only have room for one display and want a capable sounder or radar
