Default Garmin GPSMAP 1040xs

I am contemplating buying a boat that has a 2015 Garmin GPSMAP 1040xs.
He has a thru hull transducer that does not provide side scan,. I believe that I have to add an transom mount transducer to get this function. Is this possible to add.? Is there an additional port on the Unit that can add this transducer? What type of transducer should i get and approximate cost? Tried to get the garmin people on the phone to help me but it was like trying to pull teeth. Any help/ guidance would be appreciated.

The 1040xs can use the GCV 10/GT30 for Down and Side scan..it plug into the network port.
You can still use the thru hull transdcuer.

Or

You can use a GT23-TM..it will give you Traditional and Down scan..( No side scan) and you do not require the GCV 10.
